Steps To Take To Get Your Pool Ready For Swimming Season

If you're a pool owner then you know how exciting it is to finally open up your pool in the spring after a long winter. However, before you can start enjoying your pool, there are a few steps you need to take to get it ready for swimming season. In this blog, we'll go over everything you need to know about opening your swimming pool.

Step 1: Remove the Cover

The first thing you need to do when opening your swimming pool is to remove the cover. Be sure to clean the cover before storing it away for the season. If you have a solid cover, you may need to pump off any standing water before removing it.

Step 2: Inspect the Pool

Once the cover is off, take a close look at your pool. Check for any damage and make note of any repairs that need to be made. Check the water level as well, as it may have dropped over the winter.

Step 3: Clean the Pool

Next, it's time to clean your pool. Bring your water level up to operating levels. Use a leafskimmer net or rake to remove any debris that has accumulated in the pool, such as leaves or twigs. You may also need to brush the sides and the bottom of the pool to remove any algae or dirt that has built up.

Step 4: Start Up the Filter System

Once your pool is clean and the water is balanced, it's time to start up the filter system. Check all the components, such as the pump, filter and plumbing connections, to make sure they are in good working order. If you notice any issues, such as leaks or clogs, address them before starting up the system.

Step 5: Let the Water Circulate

Once the filter system is up and running, vacuum the pool thoroughly and let the water circulate for at least 24 hours.

Step 6: Test the Water

Before you can start swimming in your pool, you need to make sure the water is safe to swim in. Use a pool water testing kit to check the water or bring in a sample of pool water to your nearest JTS Pools location for a computerized water analysis. Testing should include pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels of the water. Adjust these levels as needed to ensure the water is balanced and safe.

Step 7: Get the chemicals circulated in the Pool

Once you have added the chemicals circulate the water to distribute the chemicals properly. Re-test the water to make sure it is balanced and sanitized.

Step 8: Enjoy Your Pool!

After all these steps are completed, your pool should be ready for swimming season. So, go ahead and dive in! Just be sure to continue to test the water weekly throughout the season to ensure it stays balanced and safe for swimming.

In conclusion, opening your swimming pool requires a few steps to ensure that it's safe and ready for swimming season. By following the steps outlined in this blog, you can enjoy your pool all summer long!
